Yoga has multiple benefits for those who practice.  Yoga helps you to improve muscle tone, strength and stamina.  Yoga also helps with weight management, cardiovascular conditioning & better breathing.  You can achieve greater flexibility and range of motion through Yoga as well as improve circulation and digestion.  Yoga can help you relieve stress, ease anxiety and depression, and reduce your blood pressure.  The immune system will be stimulated through your Yoga practice resulting in greater resistance to illness or disease.  Yoga also helps you to build balance and improve your posture.  Many Yoga practitioners experience a reduction in back pain.  The practice of Yoga massages your organs which helps cleanse glands and remove toxins from your tissues.  Yoga can enhance your concentration, memory and your mind/body awareness.  Yoga can help you achieve an overall sense of well-being, a focus on the present, calmness and groundedness.  Practitioners often claim yoga helps them attain inner peace with a deeper, more spiritual & satisfying place in life.   This often becomes the new reason for practice.
 
Valerie teaches Yoga classes for all ages from children to seniors and fitness levels from beginners to experienced.  Valerie can modify the postures to match your personal ability and ensure an effective, yet safe practice for you.  This means that you can attend any one of her classes and still receive the many benefits of Yoga practice.

Class Descriptions
 
Beginners Yoga: Perfect for beginners, continuing beginners and those returning to yoga.  Emphasis on the fundamentals of yoga practice including pranayama (breath) and asanas (postures) are explored.  Detailed instruction provided on alignment and benefits explained.  The standing postures and flow sequences will energize, while forward bends, twists and inversions ease and calm the mind.  Learn how to link the breath with movement and create more balance within.
 
Hatha Yoga:  Renew and rejuvenate with a stimulating Hatha yoga experience without the "vinyasa" for a less strenuous workout, tailored to fit the needs of the class.  A variety of breathing exercises will be covered including pranayama (yogic breathing) with the importance and practice of matching breath to movement.  Postures (asanas) teach poise, balance and strength to improve the body's physical health and clear the mind.  Combine the option of continuing to learn the basics with the option of trying more challenging poses.  Appropriate for all levels of experience.
 
Vinyasa Flow: A sequenced, flow-style yoga where one pose flows into another in a synchronized dance linking breath with movement.  Class focuses on alignment while providing an invigorating, strengthening and restorative practice.  A challenging workout blending strength, endurance, flexibility and balance as the "dance" moves from one posture (asana) to another.  Variations and modifications can be made to many poses.  Appropriate for most fitness levels and all levels of practice.
 
Yoga Fit: 50+ (aka:  Sr. Yoga): A gentle, yet energizing program of yoga exercises and breathing.  Designed for seniors, beginners or anyone who wants to work on flexibility and strength, without standing for long periods and with the option of using props.  Gentle and gently challenging, yet extensive and varied yoga routines suited for the mature student as well as breath work, relaxation and meditation.  It's never too late to enjoy the benefits of yoga!  Class is suitable for beginners, seniors or any stage of practice.
 
Yoga 4 Kids:  Yoga 4 Kids is a natural way to exercise, relax, focus, strengthen and nourish the body/mind/spirit connection.  Discover an exercise that fosters respect, coordination, inner strength and self-confidence.  Combines dynamic movement postures, breathing and meditation into an integrated and holistic program.  Children will enjoy yoga games, breath meditations, relaxing visualizations and fun, fun, fun yoga movements for all.  Parents are encouraged to join their children in discovering the wonders of yoga. Increases cognitive & motor skills, builds confidence, courage and self-esteem, enhances balance & coordination, improves memory retention & concentration, nurture creativity & self expression, encourage respect for themselves & others, proven therapy for children with ADHD & Autism.
 
Gentle Journey Yoga: Enjoy the journey of a gentle yoga class in which extended time is dedicated to the journey inward through meditation & guided visualization.  In addition to stress relief, pain relief, better breathing, flexibility, increased strength, weight management, improved circulation, cardiovascular conditioning & a focus on the present, yoga helps the practitioner attain inner peace.  The meditative aspects of yoga helps one reach deeper, more spiritual & a more satisfying place in life.  In classical yoga tradition, yoga is preparation for effective meditation.  Over time, it is natural to be drawn inward toward more contemplative practices.  This journey is suitable for all ages & levels from beginners to experienced.
 
Yoga Basics 101
Join Valerie for a journey in Yoga Basics.  Great for Beginners or Intermediate students who would like a deeper understanding of the asanas (postures).  The class will focus on body alignment, pranayama (breath work),  and time devoted to relaxation/meditation (the most important pose of all) with optional final adjustment & mini massage at the conclusion of class.  Leave feeling rejuvenated, centered & grounded.
 
Zumba & Yoga Combo Class: Get the fun moves, cardio & toning of latin-inspired Zumba with the stretching, toning, centeredness & inward journey of Yoga in this Half & half combo.  Enjoy Zumba fitness through fun & exciting dance steps for a great cardio workout with an international flavor. Zumba can burn 500-1,000 calories per hour!  Ditch the workout & join the party.  The second half of class will consist of a half hour of yoga geared toward the experience of the class from gentle to intermediate.  The class will conclude with the last 10-15 minutes in blissful meditation.
